A second intravenous line is an intravenous line that connects to complete a primary intravenous line already existing . Secondary intravenous line is used for intermittent or continuous Administration of drugs when kept throughout the main venous line for maintenance or other reasons . Antibiotics are the most common drugs that can be administered intermittently by venous side .        When connecting secondary infusion and wants to go it alone , it must be positioned above the primary . If you want to go both infusions , they are positioned at the same level and pace set one and then the other . Also , infuzomatele injectomatele and venous lines can be used as the secondary intermittent or continuous administration , the advantage that the exact amount of medication may administer the dose .

Materials needed :

  • prescribed medication
  • the infusion
  • special or ac adapter for attachment to the primary line
  • fortified forest
  • fixator or plaster
  • labels
  • syringe or infuzomat
  • saline

Prepare :

  • check medication prescribed by the doctor
  • wash hands
  • check solution must be administered by intravenous line secondary expiration date and its appearance
  • check whether the secondary medicament must be administered consistent with the primary intravenous line
  • if necessary, other drug is added and the solution for the Management secondary path at the physician ( the opening of the vial is wiped with alcohol , is added to the substance to be injected and stirred for proper mixing and dissolution ) but the label will necessarily specific substance added
  • Some drugs are prepared in bottles powder may be infused after winding

administration :
 confirming patient identity
 secondary if the substance to be administered is not compatible with the primary venous line , the latter will be replaced with saline , compatible with anything other substances to administration
 stand sits on the second substance is attached perfusions , eliminate air and then end perfusor either by needle or by a particular device will be attached to the coupling ( after being disinfected in advance with a pad fortified ) the first line of infusion
 adjust the infusion rate and adjusted appropriately depending on what you want ( to go both lines or only secondary vein )
 drug after secondary venous line or will turn off all the secondary and will throw in specific containers for collection, the dose should be repeated at intervals, will remain in place, labeled with the date of first use until a new infusion will be set on the secondary line

Special considerations :
 if the infusion system is kept in place the siding until a new use, should be carefully labeled with the date of first use and 24 hours of mandatory
 after removing secondary infusion system should be checked and should be disinfected at coupling the primary system so that it was not affected to drain fluid
